A Jackson public school teacher is on leave after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

The attorney for the family of the 17-year-old Provine High School senior says there are multiple videos of the sexual encounters between the teen and the teacher.

The family’s attorney Warren Martin released video footage to us, but it’s too graphic to air.

“This is a 39-year-old teacher who’s in a position of trust involved with a 17-year-old child. When you see the video and see the allegations, no parent would ever want to think of this action happening with their 17-year-old child,” Martin said.

Martin says the male student’s parents were contacted by DHS about the alleged relationship with the female teacher.

Martin claims the inappropriate sexual relationship started in December and continued for the past 4 to 5 months. He says the teacher gave the teen credit cards and cash payments to keep the relationship a secret.

“Our position is, my client was entrapped in a sexual scam. This teacher saw him, preyed upon him, and when she realized that he was close to revealing her criminality, she sought efforts to conceal it by offering my client cash payments,” Martin said.

Sherwin Johnson with Jackson Public Schools released the following statement:

“The District takes these allegations very seriously and is conducting a thorough investigation. The teacher involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, JPS will take the appropriate action. We have reported this matter to our local law enforcement agency. The Department of Human Services and the Mississippi Department of Education has also been notified. The safety and well-being of our students is of utmost importance and a top priority.”

The attorney for the student’s family says it’s possible his clients will file a lawsuit in this case after the authorities conclude their investigation.
