Natchez man shot to death while sleeping in his bed

Sergeant Cal Green with Adams Sheriff’s Office confirms that 32-year-old Kelvin Sadler was shot Monday night at his home on 316 Southmoor Drive in Natchez while he was sleeping.

Other people were inside at the time of the shooting, including his mother who called 911, but Sadler was the only one injured.

Investigators have determined that the suspect(s) entered the home through a window, shot him and then left through the back door. Burglary did not appear to be a motive.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Green, this is the same young man who was shot on the first of May.

The sheriff’s office is currently investigating but there is no information on suspects or a motive at this time.

On May 1, at approximately 8:40 pm, deputies responded to an aggravated assault on Southmoor Dr. where it was reported that a male subject had been shot and was lying in the grass. When deputies arrived, they found Sadler, who appeared to have been wounded several times in the upper torso and upper arms.

A resident advised he heard gunshots and when he ran outside he saw Sadler laying in the culvert screaming for help.

The resident was able to help Sadler by applying pressure to the wounds until EMS arrived. He was then taken to Jerusalem Baptist Church where he was airlifted to UMC for further treatment.

17-year-old Martez R. Brown was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

More arrests are expected pending investigation.
