New Orleans turns Matt Stover miss into go-ahead score

Lake Highlands’ Matt Stover had made 15 straight field goal attempts in the playoffs before his 51-yarder was hooked to the left.

New Orleans answered thanks to Drew Brees hunting and pecking his way down the field before finding Jeremy Shockey for a 2-yard touchdown pass. For Shockey it had to feel good after missing New York’s run to Super Bowl XLI because of an injury.

The Saints also got the benefit of replay when official Scott Green overturned a call on Lance Moore’s two-point catch. Green ruled Moore had possession of the ball as it crossed the goal line before Garland’s Jacob Lacey kicked the ball free to give New Orleans a 24-17 lead.

With 5:42 to play, Peyton Manning has a chance to be Joe Montana.
