Sadie Rice was lured away from the Prince of Norway to enter Prince William’s service in 2015.
But the maid has now sensationally packed in the job.
A source from the Queen’s Sandringham estate revealed Sadie, 35, had become overworked, and the prospect of moving with the Prince to Kensington Palace was the final straw.
The source said: “Sadie’s a hard worker but the job’s demands got too much, even for her.
“They wanted her to spend more time at Kensington Palace and her work was increasing all the time.
“She wasn’t having a normal life outside work. Sadie’s serving her notice and it seems nothing will change her mind. It’s their loss.”
Her departure will come as a big loss to heir to the throne George and his sister Charlotte, who both liked her.
The source added: “They will regret losing Sadi as the right people aren’t easy to find.”
Prince Wills and Kate will move to Kensington Palace full-time in autumn when the prince leaves his job at the air ambulance.
He will then take on more royal engagements after the retirement of his granddad, Prince Phillip.
Kate and Wills have been hiring more staff to prepare for their move to west London.
But they will find it hard to replace Sadie, who was responsible for cleaning, laundry, shopping and some cooking at ten-bedroom Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
She also served as a maid at Buckingham Palace, and was well liked by the Queen.
