Victim shot and killed in west Jackson double shooting identified

A 26-year-old man is dead and another is injured after a double shooting on Gammil Street in west Jackson.

Just before 9:00 p.m., JPD officers responded to the 3800 block of Gammill Street regarding a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found two men had been shot while standing near a home.

23-year-old Rodriquez Byrd and 26-year-old Jamie Washington were both transported to UMMC for medical treatment.

Byrd suffered a single gunshot wound to the foot and is listed in stable condition.

Washington was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Police say that there had been a fight between several people and two men pulled out weapons and began shooting.

After the two victims were shot, the suspects fled the scene in what appeared to be a white Ford Crown Victoria and a gray or primed “Box” style Chevy vehicle.

It is not confirmed at this time if the victims were involved in the fight.

There were no other injuries reported.

Detectives are searching for two black men identified as Tre and Jay for questioning in the shooting. They are described as being tall and dark skinned.
